Telos 204 (Fall 2023): Quandaries of Race and Gender Theory

David Pan

I am excited to announce the release today of Telos 204, a special issue on the Quandaries of Race and Gender Theory. The issue includes important essays by Kevin Amidon, Manuela Consonni, Gal Gerson, Hendrick Hansen, and Mark G. E. Kelly that focus on the long-term theoretical developments leading to current left-wing thinking on race and gender. As these essays show, such thinking is plagued by contradictions arising from the merging of an identity-based approach to politics on the one hand with post-structuralist methods that seek to dissolve identity on the other hand. The issue also includes a section on the end of affirmative action and the new possibilities and conflicts that are now arising after the Supreme Court decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard.

I would also like to draw your attention to the next Telos-Paul Piccone Institute conference on “Democracy Today?” Our keynote speaker will be Sohrab Ahmari, writer and editor at Compact Magazine, who will be speaking on “Renewing Democracy: Lessons from the Jacksonians.” We have extended the submission deadline for presentations to November 15, 2023. You can find complete information here.
