There are a lot of nuggets of substance in this commentary from Kulinski.
As Kyle points out, many Latinos are following the pattern of “white ethnics” like the Irish, Germans, and Poles in the sense of becoming increasingly assimilated into the Anglo-culture. One thing Kyle doesn’t mention is that Latin American countries are just like the US in terms of being racially mixed with European-descended people (Spanish and Portuguese) being concentrated in the elites and affluent classes, and with indigenous people and Africa-descended peoples being at the bottom of the socioeconomic pyramid. The only difference is that much of the working class in Latin American countries are of mixed Southern European and Native American ancestry which is why they are “browner” than Euro-Americans.
