Yet another immigrant just died in ICE custody, putting the Trump administration on pace for one of the deadliest years in the history of the agency.1,2
Immigrants are being forced to share one toilet with 35-40 other people, sleep on the floor, and are denied medications for diabetes and high blood pressure.3
At Alligator Alcatraz, detainees are suffering through oppressive heat over 100 degrees, nonstop swarms of mosquitos, and worm-infested food.4
And in many cases, those being held have committed no crime and haven’t even been allowed to speak with a lawyer.5,6
We’ve mobilized tens of thousands of people to demand an investigation into the horrific conditions at ICE prisons, and we need to ramp up this effort immediately.

When Rep. Maxwell Frost visited Alligator Alcatraz, he reported seeing people crammed together in blazing hot weather with inadequate food, using the toilet for drinking water.8 At a facility in New Mexico, sewage has repeatedly backed up and flooded cells.9
The only year that saw more deaths than we’re seeing now was 2020, in the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic.10 But the deaths we’re seeing now are the direct result of the horrific conditions that the Trump administration is deliberately inflicting on immigrants snatched up by his masked ICE agents.
And with Stephen Miller setting an unsustainable daily quota of 3,000 ICE arrests per day, overcrowded facilities will only become more disgusting and unsafe.11
Enough is enough. It’s time to put a stop to the abuse of detainees at ICE prisons.
With gratitude,
The team at Demand Progress Action
