The near total privatization of New Orleans public schools had devastating consequences for communities, teaching staff, and students. Charter schools are linked to right-wing forces that seem unconcerned with effects of school closings. They are part of a greater scheme to privatize Medicare, social security, the postal service, and parks and forests and affect other benefits that all should enjoy. Charter schools can undermine public school financing via “sweeps” contracts and excessive lease
agreements. It is possible to improve working conditions at charter schools through organizing, negotiating, and striking when necessary. The webinar will explore tactics and strategy for resisting school closures.

What’s wrong with private services? It is much better not to depend on government handouts. Besides, USA has some of the worst public schools in the world. But you have a significant advantage over other countries. It’s possible to seize the initiative instead of just letting it go to the big guys, isn’t it?
