Movies and books about people who have been programmed to kill on command when a codeword or phrase is said to them have always fascinated me. (SPOILER ALERT COMING) There are many but, in my opinion, the greatest of all is the 1962 version of The Manchurian Candidate (don’t even bring up the remake!). The scenes in which the soldiers are convinced they are at a tea party are enthralling. I always imagined how many hours upon hours it took to brainwash those soldiers to do the things they did. I’m not going to give much more away but if you have never seen it, it’s on TUBI for free if you have an Amazon Fire Stick

You may be asking, “Pete, why the hell are you talking about a 60-year-old movie?” The answer to that is simple; when one looks around at today’s culture, you should be painfully aware that the brainwashed masses didn’t have to be tortured to believe the inanities they espouse. No, it was passive repetition combined with their very nature.

I was told recently by a dear friend that they are aware of two people who claim to have no inner monologue. To me, this is inconceivable. My first question was, “How do they think?” I have to assume that their reaction to anything is instinctual. I hate to even use the term reaction because, in my opinion, reaction demands thought.
