Paul Gottfried on “What is Fascism?”

This week’s “Backchannel” videocast features Paul Gottfried, Editor-in-Chief for Chronicles magazine answering the question, “What is Fascism?”

The term “fascist” is thrown around a lot these days to tar and feather political and ideological opponents. President Trump is habitually called a fascist by his political opponents while he himself has then accused those very same political opponents, such as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, of being fascists. Meanwhile, cities such as Portland, Seattle, Chicago, and Minneapolis have been plagued by rioting, looting, violence, and burning by Antifa – a group that claims to be saving us from fascists. Indeed, its very name is a shortened version of anti-fascist.

With nearly everyone disparaging their opponents as fascists, Paul Gottfried will bring much needed clarity. Gottfried is the author of Fascism: The Career of a Concept as well as Antifascism: The Course of a Crusade, which is currently in press.
