Donald Trump and his MAGA allies have launched an all-out effort to steal the midterm elections.

In Texas, Republicans rammed through a sketchy, mid-decade partisan gerrymander to snatch five congressional seats currently held by Democrats.¹

House Republicans have passed legislation called the SAVE Act, which would require people to show a birth certificate or passport matching the name on their current ID when they register, disenfranchising tens of millions of voters.²

And then this week, Trump announced that he will issue an executive order to ban mail-in voting and seize personal control of election oversight nationwide.³

The SAVE Act, passed earlier this year in the House and awaiting a vote in the Senate, is one of the most dangerous attacks on our democracy.

This legislation would disenfranchise tens of millions of Americans by requiring them to show a birth certificate, passport, or a small list of other citizenship documents that must match their current name when they register to vote or change addresses.⁶ Married women, young people, immigrants, and those who have recently moved would be especially affected.

Demand Progress Action is a nonpartisan organization, and we don’t endorse any candidate or party. Indeed, if a Democratic president were pushing these kinds of anti-democratic voter suppression policies, we’d oppose that as well.

Voting is the core of democracy, and our free and fair elections are under attack like never before.
