GAZA IS STARVING

Airdrops are a ritual of humiliation, from Mohammed straight in Gaza

Mohammed is a Medical Student from Gaza. He has continued to survive two years of bombardment, like he survived the four other assaults on Gaza in the last 20 years. He is a strong, courageous, and kind person. Here is a story from Mohammed.

“Today I write with mountains pressing heavily on my chest, as if someone is choking me, weighing down my breath and suffocating every feeling inside me.

The scene before me is painfully clear a small coastal city completely surrounded, besieged from every direction. Its people are confined to only 40% of the land that remains to them. No decent homes, no warm shelters only tents scattered under the relentless weight of siege and bombardment. Planes come overhead, carrying supplies barely enough for a small neighborhood of this city, dropping tons of aid onto these tents or lands controlled by the occupier. This is not humanitarian aid falling from the sky. This is #AirHumiliation.

Everyone involved in this horrific spectacle is complicit in the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people continuing the crimes of starvation and degradation masked by a few aid boxes. We will make sure to record their names in the pages of history pages stained with shame and betrayal, with no escape. It all began with aid piling up at crossings, barely trickling through only scraps reaching the people, just enough to keep a few breaths alive. Then came what they called the “air drop,” not aimed at feeding the hungry but at humiliating them forcing them to run after canned boxes amid the rubble, as if they were creatures without dignity, or animals scavenging scraps.

The people of Gaza are trapped in an incredibly tight space West Gaza, West Central Gaza, and areas around Khan Younis. The streets are jammed with tents pressed so tightly together some are completely blocked off. Air drops of aid do more harm than good; they reduce the impact of the famine in the media, making the occupier appear compassionate, while the truth is that the quantities reaching people are minuscule, and the consequences disastrous. Every aid drop this way causes hundreds of casualties; some boxes fall onto tents, killing or injuring many.

The crush and scramble for these scant supplies cause great losses despite the small quantities. This farce exists to help the occupation escape accountability for the genocide they commit against the people. There is no real pressure or solutions offered. The dangers of air drops in Gaza outweigh any benefit they might bring. The extensive Israeli military presence inside Gaza this time turns these operations into death traps for large numbers of Palestinians, who may have to move through areas swarming with soldiers leading to many more casualties. Furthermore, most Gaza residents live in fragile tents, so any box falling on them can cause additional deaths. The cost of these operations is extremely high, draining huge financial resources while delivering only limited amounts of food, making this step practically useless. Worse still, the Israeli occupation exploits these air drops as a way to release international pressure over the escalating famine and ongoing genocide, while the siege remains tight and crossings stay closed. There is no need for “coming in through the window” when there are doors and crossings able to receive thousands of trucks daily. There is no excuse to humiliate the dignity of Gaza’s people with these staged scenes that offer no real solution to end the famine or stop the war. #AirHumiliation: Between Aid Air Drops in Gaza and the World’s Silence In a surreal daily scene, the starving people of Gaza stand with eyes fixed on the sky, watching planes soaring above, dropping balls of false hope wrapped in humanitarian slogans as aid boxes from the air. This is no fantasy movie, but a bitter reality they live under siege and starvation, with crossings closed and the occupier controlling their air, water, and food. What is called the “air drop” is nothing but collective humiliation for a defenseless, starving people, running beneath rockets and rubble just to get a sack of flour or a can of sardines as if they are feeding animals, not humans. What kind of humanity drops food from the sky instead of opening the land to a starving people? And what dignity remains for those forced to catch scraps of life from the air? Air Drops… and Blocked Crossings While the international community, especially the Arab world, can deliver aid through land crossings, all efforts are reduced to dropping it from planes. This is not support it is indirect participation in the ongoing siege of Gaza. If the goal is to save lives, why isn’t Israel forced to open the crossings? Why don’t the surrounding Arab armies move? Arab and international silence has become a full-fledged crime, as powerful states prefer to flex their muscles with empty air drop shows instead of taking decisive political stances to protect a people suffering famine and oppression.

The Symbolism of Humiliation This aerial spectacle carries a dangerous symbolism: Dropping aid from above → implying the superiority of the giver over the receiver, as if Palestinians deserve this humiliation because they are inferior. The mass scramble for food → an intentional media image portraying Palestinians as beggars, not as humans with rights to life and dignity. Absence of dignity and privacy → no respect for human life, no right to live safely and with honor.

Today, Gaza does not ask for charity but for its full human rights: to eat from its land, to receive healthcare, to learn, to live with dignity not to be humiliated while searching for a sack of rice dropped from a plane. The World’s Failure… and a Lesson for Us What is happening in Gaza today exposes the failure of the global humanitarian system, the weakness of Arab regimes, and the hypocrisy of European countries that claim human rights while prolonging the massacre. Gaza does not need planes dropping tiny amounts of aid as a theatrical show; it needs a genuine stand for justice. It does not need parcels thrown from the sky, but the lifting of an unjust siege. It does not need false sympathy but full respect for its rights and dignity.

Air humiliation is not just a sad scene it is a political crime, a moral tragedy, and a stain on the conscience of humanity. Gaza is not only starving but is humiliated every day the sky bears witness, and the earth weeps. This method is extremely costly and ineffective. Its sole purpose is to humiliate the Palestinian people, portraying them as displaced, hungry, and homeless. Air aid, compared to trucks, is very expensive, but the quantities are very limited, causing chaotic crowds of thousands scrambling for very few boxes, which only serves the occupation’s media narrative. Israel could not find anyone to carry out the air drops to cover up the famine with tiny amounts, so the Israeli army decided to do it themselves starting tonight. In one incident, a box fell on a tent, injuring 11 people, seven critically. The UAE sent air aid to the west of Gaza City in a tent area at 10 PM. A cruel and foolish timing! Do they think the people of Gaza are not human? Dropping aid boxes at night over tent areas means darkness and danger, and boxes falling on people as has happened many times before. One martyr and eighteen injured in death traps, not from Israeli bombing, but from an air drop likely carried out by an Arab state! What’s the difference between this and an Israeli missile killing hundreds? This air humiliation is a vile invention may God curse those who invented it, and may they long for death but not find it! This is not aid but disgrace, not heroism but shame, not honor but its opposite. A people besieged for months, receiving crumbs of flour at night this is not humanitarian dropping, but a display of humiliation. A scene meant to break the human spirit inside you, forcing you to choose between hunger and dignity. What humiliation is this? What insult is committed against this people? Is this how free people are fed? Israel tries by all means to prolong the famine, through air drop theatrics accompanied by massive media campaigns, American companies, or slow truck entries. Recent air drops came from the Netherlands, dropped in the densely tented center of Gaza City. One box fell on a child in Jabalia, an orphan, whose condition is critical. Who has not yet participated in killing us? From the heart of Gaza, I confirm most air drops fall in areas occupied by Israeli forces. Air humiliation achieves what the Zionists failed to do through years of aerial, tank, and infantry bombardment. Boxes are dropped randomly, quantities are small, people are starving everyone fights to survive, making this a devilish plan beyond even the devil’s imagination. All countries participating in these drops know the enemy needs this spectacle to deceive the world, calm the anger of the free, and ease pressure on itself. They could have refused to participate and set conditions preserving human dignity and ensuring aid that truly saves from famine, but they did not they are partners in the crime. These countries also need these fake scenes to deceive their peoples and silence their anger. It is crucial that people do not fall for these attempts, and that the current media momentum around the famine does not fade. If the issue had no impact, Israel would not allow air drops nor approve any truck entries. Ignore talk of stopping the war and negotiations focus only on aid entry, the usual way to silence the world and guarantee continued extermination. A foreign correspondent involved in an air drop operation revealed: “The Israeli army does not allow us to show footage of Gaza from the air. We received strict orders that if we film Gaza from the air, the drops will be canceled. The army prevents reporters from entering Gaza to document what is happening.” One of the occupation’s conditions for allowing aid drops on Gaza is preventing filming of the destruction caused by Israeli bombing, which is why no country conducting air drops is allowed to film. The city is completely burned and destroyed, and what the occupation has done to Gaza is unprecedented in all history. A failed air drop led to the death of three Palestinian children after a box fell on a tent sheltering displaced people in Gaza. Many statements follow—announcements of convoys, trucks, and drops, thousands of tons of aid, international interventions… yet people see nothing. The situation is extremely dire. Daily convoys claim to enter, but we receive nothing, we do not eat. Where is the aid? Where is the benefit? Empty statements to silence famine and cover it up. Voices from the ground: “This is my only one… my only one, oh Arabs…” A parachute aid drop directly struck the tents of displaced people on Al-Jalaa Street, severely injuring the young man Karam Al-Kahlout in the head. Karam, who was preparing water for his sick father, now lies in the ICU at Al-Maqdadi Hospital, fighting for his life after a random aid box fell on his head. Also, the martyr nurse Uday Al-Qarra’an appeared two days ago pleading with powerful Arab countries to stop air drops, calling it air humiliation, urging to open land crossings and end the war of starvation and extermination in Gaza. He was killed today by a falling aid box! I have witnessed the scraps dropped by these air humiliation planes I swear it’s truly scraps, luxury foods that neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. We lack essentials like flour, vegetables, fruits, and baby formula. The dropped package barely feeds one person how can it feed a family? We are tired of having no options; we cannot live without food or feel full. Our bodies are exhausted; we cannot strengthen or heal ourselves. All air humiliation operations happen in the area where I am. Huge crowds of hungry people from different areas gather on the ground where the aid will fall—thousands waiting for 8 parachutes carrying less than a single truckload. During the drop, some parachutes fail and fall quickly. Today, an entire parachute collapsed. Once, while sitting by the sea, I saw a parachute dropping fast in the distance; thousands rushed, fighting over one box. Their goal is to reinforce the chaotic scene that humiliates human dignity. Imagine yourself hungry, barefoot, under the blazing sun, surrounded by displacement, thirst, and bombing. Imagine running, gasping under planes just to get a handful of lentils or beans. Imagine this scene, hold it in your mind and never forget it. Aid planes of air humiliation our only choice is to run after a plane to get food. Our bodies are weary; our youth have turned into the bodies of the elderly, frail and unhealthy. The media shows you the plane dropping boxes on the Strip as if it saved them from famine, capturing the photo op… but it hides what really happens, hiding how these aids are dropped on people in tents. The Euro-Mediterranean Monitor describes Israeli air drops as a new chapter in the ongoing humiliation of civilians in Gaza, following public humiliation and repeated killings at aid distribution points. Air drops are used to continue Israel’s policy of collective starvation one of the tools of genocide aimed at eradicating Palestinians in Gaza. It is a narcotic needle injected into the consciousness of peoples, claiming that officials “helped” Gaza, while in reality, they worsen its suffering. Helping Gaza is not through theatrical air shows but by stopping the war, bringing daily, uninterrupted aid, and applying real pressure on governments. We don’t want air shows dropping scraps, nor theatrical scenes on the pain and hunger of our people. Gaza does not need air shows but breaking the siege, opening crossings, and supporting its steadfastness with dignity, not charity. Our people don’t beg; they resist and endure with pride. #GazaIsStarving”
