Bernie Sanders: No more bombs for Israel

Gaza has officially reached the “worst-case scenario of famine,” according to the United Nations, as a result of Israel’s months-long blockade on food.1

Tens of thousands of emaciated children and babies are facing acute malnutrition, and more than 1,000 desperate Palestinians have been killed while seeking food from the four massively overcrowded food distribution sites run by U.S. contractors and Israeli forces.2

Israel is using mass starvation as a weapon of war — and none of these atrocities would be possible without the support of the U.S.

But Bernie Sanders is forcing a Senate vote TODAY to stop additional U.S. bombs from being sent to Israel and raise pressure on Netanyahu to lift the blockade on food to Gaza — and we’re ramping up our push to flood Capitol Hill with phone calls urging senators to vote yes.

We’ve all seen the horrific images of starving children pouring out of Gaza in recent days.

But this man-made famine has been months in the making.

In March, Israel broke the ceasefire and imposed a total blockade on food, water, and medicine from entering Gaza. Then in May, Israel announced that food aid distribution would be handled exclusively by a new U.S.- and Israel-backed organization called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. Virtually overnight, the number of food distribution sites was cut from more than 400 to just four.3

Since then, these militarized aid distribution sites have become death traps for starving Palestinians who are lured in by the promise of food and then gunned down.4 Now, after months of deliberate mass starvation, Gaza is in the grip of a deadly famine.

But when Netanyahu was asked about the famine in Gaza this week, he claimed, unbelievably, that, “there is no starvation in Gaza.”5

Make no mistake: Israel’s blockade would end tomorrow if the U.S. demanded it, and Bernie Sanders is leading the way by forcing the Senate to vote on two resolutions to block major new offensive weapons shipments to Israel.6

Demand Progress Action has mobilized tens of thousands of people to call for an end to U.S. military aid to Israel, and with Gaza now plunged into a worst-case catastrophe, we’re ramping up our efforts to flood Capitol Hill with phone calls before today’s votes on Bernie’s resolutions.

Please donate right now to help support our work, including our campaign to end U.S. support for Israel’s war on Gaza.

With gratitude,
