RYAN GRIM LEAVING THE INTERCEPT, LAUNCHING INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATIVE OUTLET WITH JEREMY SCAHILL

A Note From Ryan Grim:

As long-time Breaking Points viewers, you probably know that I’ve spent the heart of my investigative journalism career at The Intercept. It’s an outlet that has had its (very public) faults but also had an enormous number of virtues – we’ve done plenty of work that has made the lives of the MSM and corrupt politicians and corporations miserable even as those in power were forced to respect the quality and accuracy of our journalism. I’m proud of that work – and it’s important that we continue the spirit of it. That’s why a group of us, including Intercept co-founder Jeremy Scahill, are leaving to launch something new, called Drop Site News.

The independent media ecosystem needs its own sustainably funded, investigative journalism, otherwise we’re stuck relying on the MSM’s flawed and biased work. We talked about it a bit on today’s show, and we’ll have more announcements soon.

Drop Site is a nonprofit news organization that will rely on regular people who want news they can trust. It’ll always remain free – no paywall – and you’ll see the result of those investigations here on Breaking Points, Counter Points, and elsewhere throughout the media. We’ll rely on paying subscribers and readers who want to make bigger one-time contributions. Investigative journalism is expensive, but done right, it’s well worth it, and still has the capacity to change the world.

We hope you’ll join us in continuing to help grow the multiverse of independent media. If you’d like to make one of those bigger contributions, you can do that here or reach out to majorgiving@dropsitenews.com or email me directly at ryan@dropsitenews.com.
