Kyle needs to talk about the public square as a concept and how it’s been essentially privatized by entities that profoundly and decidedly are not looking to facilitate constructive democratic practices. People go online to get their news, they talk to each other about what’s happening and what ought to be done about it. That’s civics. That’s the public square. Shadow banning, algorithms, gamification, these are things that impact the problem-solving capacities of your citizenry. And that’s not mentioning the gazillion other factors like civics education, the attention economy, and corporate owned narrow-viewed and short sighted media
