  1. I work with a lot of the data that was used to produce the city-state map. It’s mostly based on Metropolitan Statistical Areas as defined by the US Census. These places are defined by where people work and commute from and too. So you’re right, they are defined by economic ties rather than social, cultural or religious ties. Obviously it’s nothing to base an idea like Pan-secession on in its entirety. Interesting none the less.
