This is some of the most interesting geopolitical/international relations commentary I have seen in a while.
This segment gets to the wider geopolitical ramifications of this. It’s more or less the First World and former Russian vassalages against the Second World and the Third World. Even Israel and the Gulf States have distanced themselves from the Western position. Around the world, popular sentiment in favor of Ukraine seems to be coming mostly from the West and former Soviet republics that are anti-Russia, and sympathy for Russia seems to be coming from the Global South (along with far-right/far-left dissidents in the West). The former view Putin as a Hitlerian aggressor, while the latter think Putin is defying Western imperialism.
Kim Iversen breaks down the complicated geopolitical realignment taking place as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
