Press TV invited me on their News Review program this morning to discuss J.D. Vance’s extraordinary tweet blaming the Republican debacle in the midterms on Trump’s war-on-Iran-for-Israel.

TRANSCRIPT:

Press TV: J.D. Vance is seeking to build new political alliance with disaffected supporters of President Donald Trump, following Republicans’ humiliating defeat in the midterms. According to sources, Vance wants to establish a new right: a broad coalition of Republicans united around an American first agenda, including ending the very important conflict in Iran. That war was the real reason Republicans suffered humiliation in the November 3rd election.

Vance’s tweet was widely interpreted as an effort to distance himself from Trump. He said to win voters, Republicans need to end the war on Iran, focus on the cost of living and inflation, put America first and change the country’s relationship with Israel.

The Republicans lost both houses of Congress in Tuesday’s election. The results have been described by some Republicans as a rejection of Trump’s presidency. We’re joined by Kevin Barrett, Editor of the Al-Andalus Tribune. Kevin, did you see this coming? Were you surprised by it?

Kevin Barrett: No, I have to say I did see it coming. I wasn’t sure that it would be as big as it turned out to be, because there are allsorts of factors that can come into play in American elections, including rigged voting machines. And so one never knows for sure how things are going to come out.

But I did expect a serious rebuke to the Trump White House over this illegal, immoral, and utterly catastrophic war on Iran. And that’s precisely what happened. And it happened to such a degree that it’s impossible to ignore.

And it was really interesting that we saw Vice President J.D. Vance actually put out a relatively sane and truthful analysis of what really happened. When a politician in the United States tells the truth, it’s kind of what in journalism we call a “man bites dog story.” In other words, it’s not news if a dog bites a man, but it is big news if a man bites a dog.

And so it’s big news when a politician tells the truth. But it’s even more of a man-bites-dog story, even bigger news, when a politician tells the truth about the Israeli stranglehold on American politics and the fact that it’s becoming increasingly unpopular. But that issue has now become so predominant that it’s impossible for even the Vice President to ignore if he wants to have a political future.

So we’ve seen a huge breakthrough here. And whether or not this awakening of the American people to the fact that their country has been crushed under the domination of a criminal Zionist oligarch regime, which has done everything from murdering the Kennedys to doing the 9/11 false flag operation, murdering Charlie Kirk, and so much more. If the American people fully awakened to all of this, and understood just what the Zionist crime cartel has done to their country, they would do a lot more than just voting against Donald Trump.

Press TV: Mr. Barrett, Trump himself kind of gave us an inkling to what he plans to do with that tweet where he posted VETO on the cap that usually says MAGA. So he’s saying that whenever they bring something in front of him he will veto it. Has he lost his base, and where do we go from here?

Kevin Barrett: Yes, Trump has lost the most important part of his MAGA base, which is the relatively aware and intelligent side of MAGA. Now, there are people who hate MAGA who reject the idea that there’s anybody in the MAGA movement that is sincere and intelligent and well-informed. But actually there are some, at least to a certain extent. And those are the very people who are also capable of changing their votes. And that’s what they did in this election. That’s what Vance explained in his tweet. He said that all of his polling and data showed that there was a huge turnout of the MAGA voters who had put Trump in office.

Press TV: [So which issues swung the election?]

Well, as Vance said, it was a vote against this war on Iran for Israel. As Vance put it in his tweet, the four things that every one of these voters said was to end the war, number one, and then focus on the cost of living and inflation, which is all driven by the war. And finally, change our relationship with Israel.

So this whole thing was basically about people waking up on both the left and the right, and saying “You know, we’re tired of being run into the ground by the state of Israel. We’re tired of having our government hijacked by Benjamin Netanyahu. We’re tired of waging these forever wars in West Asia for Israel. We’ve been doing this now for, what, 25 years, since the Israelis blew up the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001, we’ve been fighting Israel’s enemies, because they hijacked our country, hijacked our military.”

And now we have these domestic consequences with inflation and so on.

But we also have this really corrupt system where the Epstein class is using bribery and then threats of assassination, all these criminal means that the kosher Nostra Israeli-supported organized crime network of oligarchs that runs the United States has been doing. And they’ve been killing the country. And Americans are waking up and saying, we’re done. We don’t want any more of this.

Press TV: What should be looking forward to in the next couple of weeks, in the next couple of months? Will this change really have any impact for the American people? It’s not just the economy, it’s also social issues, it’s the AI industry, the economy, it’s everything. Are we going to see any change, really, in the next couple of months? Or is it just going to be Democrats going after the Republicans to punish them?

Well, it’s still a dangerous period. If the blue wave had been a little bit smaller, I think it would have been even more dangerous, because the pressure on Trump from Netanyahu to go ahead and do the so-called limited nuclear strike on Pickaxe Mountain and go island hopping in the Gulf and so on would have been more likely to succeed. But even this lame duck president who’s been slapped down by the voters and by Iran…He’s unstable, and who knows what he might do. So there’s still a possibility that we could end up in much worse circumstances than we are now. But it’s more likely that they will manage to somehow muddle through. It’s hard to imagine how they can end this war cleanly, but that’s what we’re all hoping and praying for.
