This commentary is quite good, although I don’t share the politics of these guys. I’m definitely on the same side as the far left and/or paleoconservative folks they are worried will gain too much influence in the aftermath of the failure of Afghanistan and Iraq. Their comparison of the present time with the late 70s is on the money as well. The way Douthat describes the “three zones of US imperialism” is on the money, although one thing he leaves out is that US imperialism is a component of a global capitalist empire (see Hardt and Negri) in which the US ruling class is the senior partner.
Saagar and guest host Marshall Kosloff are joined by NYT columnist Ross Douthat to examine the American empire now that it appears to be in retreat following the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
