If it’s been a little quiet on this substack this past month, it is because I’ve been busy making a few “outside appearances”. These represent a good summation of some of the themes I’ve been exploring on The Great Thinkers series, my general “done-ness” with slop internet politics, hyperreality and fake partisan culture wars nonsense.
First, I went over to New York to record a 3-hour episode with Julian Dorey, who has around 1.5 million subscribers. It was nice to meet a young, ambitious, and driven guy who seemed very eager to learn. In the short time I spent with him, it was easy to see why he’s been so successful.
Second, I talked to Essential Salts, who by all accounts has one of the best philosophy shows on the internet. It was a pleasure to speak to him, very intelligent guy.
Third, I talked to the guys at The Base, a pair of actors who do interesting work and who I respect for being aware and present IRL. We talked about Shakespeare, history and politics and much more.
Finally, the talk I did on Shakespeare back at the Verdurin in February has now been uploaded. This was the last in-person event at which I appeared. Pierre is also making things IRL and creating a space where arty and interesting things can happen.
