Trump’s attacks on our voting rights and elections have one goal: rig the 2026 midterms. Governors J.B. Pritzker and Gavin Newsom are warning about the prospect of Trump sending federal agents to intimidate voters at the polls after Trump’s military takeover of Democratic cities.¹

Pam Bondi is demanding voter data from over 30 states to build a national voter database — shocking voting rights advocates and raising questions about how Trump could weaponize this information. “Nobody has ever done anything like this,” said one election law expert.²

Trump’s promise for a national Voter ID executive order and the House GOP-passed SAVE Act could disenfranchise 21 million people in 2026.^3,4 Trump ranted about a “MAIL-IN BALLOT HOAX” on Truth Social when he announced his plan to outright ban mail voting.⁵

Trump and his cronies have spent years preparing for this all-out authoritarian power grab. Now, the White House is executing their plan. Demand Progress is not sitting back and letting a strongman take control of America.

Trump’s loyalists in Texas have completed their racist, partisan, unconstitutional gerrymandering. It’s a “hijacking of democracy in plain sight” that strips voting rights from communities of color and secures power for Republicans.⁶ And Trump is pushing for more states to follow Texas’s lead and further stack the deck in his favor.

Republicans are using propaganda about so-called “non-citizen voting” as the basis for their attacks on democracy. The Trump administration is also weaponizing its Big Lie disinformation to cause chaos in the lead up to the midterms.

Our campaign to save free and fair elections from Trump’s coordinated effort to undo democracy is urgent. We are exposing and countering MAGA in the media, online, and on Capitol Hill. Our only chance to beat back Trump’s attempt to rig the midterms is to ramp up our work immediately.
