BLUENAMI WIPES OUT MAGA

Episode 302 with Abby Martin

BLUE WAVE!!! Americans went to the polls en masse to reject Trumpism after ten years of austerity for the working class, violent attacks on immigrants, and the erosion of (what existed of) our country’s democratic institutions. It’s the biggest sweep of victory for Dems in memory, and in the lives of many of those who cast votes earlier this week. What will the party learn? Will it learn? Will it use this mandate to prosecute Trump to the fullest extent of the law, or will we be hearing “unity with the Republicans” rhetoric that will lead us to a red sweep in the next elections? We talk to political commentator and writer Abby Martin about what we saw in the elections, plus her new documentary showing the true scope of the climate crisis. Watch below:

WE GOT BLEXAS. And in much more than just the stunning victory of James Talarico, a victory so solid that he logged more support just from early votes than Paxton got in the entire election. The governorship went to the Dems with Gina Hinojosa — in fact, Dems cleaned up in the state legislature, showing that Texas’s days of being a reactionary stronghold are over, at least for now. After literally freezing to death back in 2020 under Abbott’s far-right leadership, working people have seen that they can’t afford to put MAGA in office and that Trump’s movement would rather see them die than give them Medicare for All, a living wage, and other components of a sustainable life in the late-capitalist US. So Democratic candidates will replace some of Trump’s most important allies, and to get their wins, they relied on the language and political vision that Bernie 2016 gave us — even those outside of the democratic socialist tent have benefited from and are strengthening a more populist politics, and it’s helping them get into the halls of power.

The other thing we want to talk to Abby about is her incredible feature-length documentary about the climate crisis, Earth’s Greatest Enemy. Its anti-imperialist perspective on the climate fight shines a light on the U.S. military as one of our most nefarious enemies, not only as a bloodthirsty machine of human misery but also as a major polluter and destroyer of the earth. We talk to Abby about her incredible research showing yet another facet of the deep evil that is our country’s military industrial complex, and we use it as an opportunity to think about how to draw attention to and rally against that enemy if we want to fight the climate crisis.

Thanks for listening. You can listen to this episode on major streaming platforms tomorrow evening.
