Laurent Guyénot on “What the Christians Did to the Romans”And where the West goes from here
Rumble link Bitchute linkLaurent Guyénot’s From Yahweh to Zion powerfully argues that Judaism has been a destructive force throughout its 2500-year existence. Now he’s back with another book-length argument upsetting conventional wisdom, this time targeting Christianity. What the Christians Did to the Romans: A critical history of the Christianization argues that traditional accounts of the Christianization of the Roman Empire amount to victors’ history. The real story, he says, is far less flattering to Christianity. The truth, Guyénot suggests, has only been emerging since the second half of the twentieth century, when “a generation of historians produced what may be called a ‘revisionist’ perspective on the religious transformation of Late Antiquity. The two most influential pioneers are Ramsay MacMullen and Peter Brown.” Guyénot’s criticism targets the institutional dogmas of Christianity, which were often remarkably intolerant and obscurantist, and their destructive effects on Western society, but not the message of Jesus as preserved in the Gospels. Can the religion of Christianity survive the exposure of its founding myths and regain its position as the ideological and spiritual foundation of the West? Or will the West inevitably continue its trajectory towards post-Christianity, and either implode in nihilism or somehow return to the pre-Christian “religion of philosophy” as Guyénot would prefer? Toward the end of the interview, I argue for an Islamic alternative, which could oversee a synthesis of monotheism and philosophy. Laurent Guyénot’s new article, Why Do They Hate Us? Is it about Christ, Whiteness, or Rome? touches on some of the same issues, and argues that Jewish hatred for white Christians and post-Christians is more about Rome than about whiteness or Christianity.
