American Decline

Trump Didn’t Break America – Here’s What Did. (Nixon, Bush, Trump, and Presidential Power)

This video is about the modern history of presidential power in the United States framed by the pardon of Richard Nixon and the soon-to-be second Trump term. I contend that there has been a concerted effort by the Republican Party to expand presidential power over the last 50 years, and that this is bad for the American system of government. I talk about the rise of Unitary Executive Theory, which originated during the Nixon era, was first utilized by Reagan, and became more widely known when Bush used it to justify immoral and criminal acts. I also talk about Project 2025 and the growing push by Republicans to further consolidate power within the White House, with figures like JD Vance calling for even more executive power. This video is about political history, the risks of unchecked presidential authority, its consequences for democracy, and how I believe that Congress ultimately must step in to restore balance.
