There is so much strangeness in the Manhattan criminal trial of Donald Trump. In this insightful and funny reported column, Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi takes stock of one facet of it — the unfolding reality that Trump is conducting his presidential campaign, in a very real way, out of a criminal courthouse. That unlikely state of affairs has grown out of the fact that Trumpworld can only exist in close proximity to the man himself, who these days is spending much of his week under the involuntary oversight of Judge Juan Merchan. Trump’s team claims that it is bringing out the best in their candidate. At very least, it is keeping all the attention on him — and it’s hard to imagine that doesn’t make him happy.
