Israeli airstrikes are falling on Rafah¹ as Netanyahu continues his threats to invade the densely populated city in Gaza where over a million Palestinians have taken refuge.²

“An Israeli offensive on Rafah would lead to an unspeakable humanitarian catastrophe,” said the European Union’s head of foreign policy when Israel first threatened to invade. The deaths, loss of humanitarian aid, and intensifying tensions in the region would be a new devastating stage in this already horrific conflict.⁴

Hamas’s attacks beginning on October 7 must be condemned, but Israel’s response has been disproportionate and taken an extraordinary civilian toll. The urgent need for a ceasefire grows with every day and every airstrike on the Palestinian people. Our lawmakers must broker peace immediately.
