Hello Repro Nation readers!

It’s been a minute since my last newsletter. How are you? You haven’t aged a day! I likely have a few more gray hairs since you last heard from me, and that is because there is a new baby in my household, bringing a lot of joy and some sleepless nights. I couldn’t be more tired excited to be back. (Shout-out to all the caregivers out there doing all the things and still finding time to read newsletters. You’re doing an amazing job.)

Let me reintroduce myself and Repro Nation in case you’ve just subscribed. Hi! 👋🏾 I’m Regina Mahone, a senior editor at the Nation, founder of this lovely newsletter, and a journalist who has been writing and editing articles about abortion access and reproductive justice for a decade. I also have a podcast about abortion, with writer and abortion access activist Renee Bracey Sherman, called The A Files: A Secret History of Abortion.

Repro Nation is the Nation’s free, monthly newsletter providing the latest news and analysis on the global struggle for reproductive freedom. The newsletter also features links to other media outlets providing sharp commentary and can’t-miss news reporting on abortion, as well as a list of resources for people seeking abortions or people seeking to help others get abortions in this era of fractured access.

But back to why we are here: This past month has been hella busy for abortion news—this past week especially. While Aid Access’s abortion Roe-bots roved past protesters outside of the US Supreme Court on Tuesday, Democrat Marilyn Lands flipped an Alabama House seat in a special election by running on abortion and in-vitro fertilization. The kicker: She captured 62 percent of the vote, while her Republican opponent had 38 percent, proving once again (for anyone who hasn’t been watching) that abortion is a winning issue, even in a state with a supreme court claiming that frozen embryos are children.

But that’s not all that happened in March. Continue reading for Nation justice correspondent Elie Mystal’s recap of the abortion pill case that went before the high court and an interview with Gretchen Sisson, author of the new book Relinquished: The Politics of Adoption and the Privilege of American Motherhood.

Until next time,

Regina Mahone

Senior Editor
