I think one part of history that gets lost when talking about the fall of Rome are the emperors who fought to save and preserve Rome, even in her final days. Gallienus, Aurelian, and Majorian are the standouts in terms of fighting to save Rome. The odds were stacked against them, and they choose to fight till their last breath. In times like these, it is important to remember these men and act as they did, rather than to wallow in despair and hopelessness.
