You think of Whole Foods (or “Whole Paycheck” as some of my friends call it) and you probably don’t think of conservative values. The organic-only crowd and well-to-do white collar liberals that shop there and scoff at other grocery stores have painted the company with a near ultra-progressive vibe. John Mackey, the founder though, could not be any more different.
Mackey is a Bitcoin maximalist, near anarcho-capitalist, and absolute skeptic of concentrated authority. He started Whole Foods because he wanted to provide the market with healthier alternatives. Liberals shop there to show off the fact they can afford to shop there. Amazon bought it, well, because they could.
Regardless, Mackey is a man who enjoyed filling a void he saw in the market. He worked hard, built a multi-million dollar business, and after the successful buy-out by Amazon is happy to spend the rest of his life doing whatever he wants, since financial success is no longer a concern. Mackey is now unleashed, and the non-woke former CEO is starting to finally open his mouth about what he sees as a threat to America which made him a success.
According to The New York Post, Mackey is “deeply concerned” about the fact that “socialists are taking over” the United States at every level.
“They’re marching through the institutions… They’ve taken over education. It looks like they’ve taken over a lot of the corporations. It looks like they’ve taken over the military,” said Mackey. “And it’s just continuing.
“And I feel like with the way freedom of speech is today — the movement on gun control — a lot of the liberties that I’ve taken for granted most of my life, I think, are under threat.”
