Russia vs. Ukraine: Who Has Better Weapons? | Scott Ritter

Correction. In fact, the Soviet tank T-34 was absolutely revolutionary for its time. The low central placement of the engine allowed to position the armoured front panel and side boards not vertically, like in all German tanks, but under sharp angles, which enhanced their resistance to a direct impact of artillery shells, because projectiles were likely deflected by the slanted surfaces, instead of piercing them and breaking through. This, in turn, allowed to use a thinner armour and thus significantly lighten the weigh of the tank, making it faster, more maneuverable, etc. As a result, T-34 became a much more efficient weapon even in comparison with substantially heavier and larger German counterparts. Besides, their production by the Soviet Union outnumbered big way all the tanks built not only in Germany, but in entire Europe, as it was completely occupied, so its whole industry worked for the Germans.
