Ukraine is a country that has experienced both a color-coded revolution sponsored by the West and a secession of its eastern regions sponsored by Russia, been in a state of de facto civil war for 8 years,  and caught in the middle between Atlanticist aspirations for unipolar world hegemony and Russian aspirations for a restored Russian empire. This is not a situation that can be explained in simplistic terms.
