The EU has said it point blank, the Oligarchs in Russia cannot fly over EU airspace. The more countries that get into this no fly zone issues, the worse it will be for these rich people who want to go where they want to go and can’t because all Russian planes (whether Russian airliners or Russian owned) are not allowed to fly over EU countries. They don’t like this, so they have to pressure Putin to change course. So my thought is that they should continue with the sanctions, and pinch them even harder. It’s not a good time for the rest of the world to concede anything or take Putin’s word for anything, but you’re absolutely spot on; the only way to contain him is to keep squeezing the oligarchs, who will in turn squeeze Putin.
