Free State Project News – June 2012

From the President’s Desk

Before we get to what’s on everyone’s mind–Porcfest, of course!–a giant THANK YOU to the community for pledging to hire Chris Lopez as an independent contractor to handle the FSP’s administrative work. If you pledged, please follow this link to make your donation now. Chris will be working closely with me, and Chris Lawless, on various projects, including database management, website updates, welcome letters, and much more. Thank YOU for making this a wonderful, voluntary win-win solution for both Chris and the FSP.

The Free State Project’s ninth annual Porcfest starts soon! This year, in addition to more focus on family fun, we have introduced the Very Important Porcupine program to reward our donors, invited speakers and doers with special perks. Thank you for your continued support!

The schedule is chock full of awesomesauce: speakers, panels, roasts (both comedy and pork), firearm etiquette classes and shoots, kids carnival, movie nights, the one-pot cook-off, hikes, Alt-Expo, Soap Box Idol, the Future of the FSP, and more.

Meet liberty luminaries like Bob Murphy, Stefan Molyneux, Ernie Hancock, Adam Kokesh, Angela Keaton, Bill Buppert, Dan D’Amico, Larken Rose, F. Paul Wilson, Gardner Goldsmith, and others. Hand-pick the events that most interest you, from karaoke to a flash fiction writing contest, to in-depth discussions about Austrian economics and the Agora.

Thinking about moving? Get your questions answered by one of our roving Ambassadors or stop in at the Ambassador station at the Welcome Center. Interested in being an FSP Ambassador where you live? Attend one of the training sessions to learn how you can help spread the word about the FSP.

For their generous support, we would like to thank all of our sponsors, especially: Silver Circle and Paysius, our Platinum sponsors. We’d also like to thank High Calibre Engineering Ltd. for advertising with us.

My heartfelt appreciation to this year’s head organizers: Jason and Sharon Osborne. Thank you for all your hard work, enthusiasm, dedication, and attention to detail. Kudos also to their excellent core team: Garland West, Jarrod Ean-Dixon, Kellie McGuire, John and Melissa Shaw, Jody Underwood, Joy Sandoz, and James Schlessinger.

A huge thank you to all our Porcfest volunteers and attendees… YOU put the “Porcupine” in the “Porcupine Freedom Festival.” And, finally, remember, if you really want to achieve Liberty in Our Lifetime… Don’t wait… Move to the Free State!

Yours in peace and liberty,
Carla Gericke
FSP President

Ah, PorcFest, the early-morning mist gently brushing the noble versants of the White Mountains, before wafting out into the crystal-blue sky of the Free State. The sweet aroma of liberty mingles with the sweet aroma of the lilac. Aves wheel about and twitter happily among branches of pine and fir, while hippies and hipsters, suburbanites and urbanites, atheists and acolytes, tweet and post to friends across the world, as well as those ten feet away.

Soon the sweet scents of morning are taken over by the delicious aroma of scrumptious foods; from the healthful and salutary to the indulgent and sybaritic. Mixing through it all are the sounds of
laughter and conversation. Bitter diatribes weave and blend with hearty guffaws; pedantic lectures mingle with convivial greetings, and nearly fatal puns snake between eternal aphorisms and idiotic
idioms. But with all the wonderful things to see and hear and feel at PorcFest, we all know the real reason to go – the FSP merchandise!

Yes, I can see the merchandise table up ahead with a crowd in front of it; a mass of humanity, clawing and grasping, biting and grabbing to get their hands on the wonderful treasure offered and at such reasonable prices, too. But do not fear, there is no need to clamor and clutch, perhaps violating the law of non-aggression, all of the items available at the glorious PorcFest, and more, are available now at the Free State Project store page. Beat the rush, put away your stompin’ boots; you don’t need to grunt and sweat under a weary life – shop early and comfortably at the FSP Store!

The Free State Project

The Free State Project is an effort to recruit 20,000 liberty-loving people to move to New Hampshire. We are looking for neighborly, productive, tolerant folks from all walks of life, of all ages, creeds, and colors who agree to the political philosophy expressed in our Statement of Intent, that government exists at most to protect people’s rights, and should neither provide for people nor punish them for activities that interfere with no one else.

The work of creating and sustaining such a society in New Hampshire is the job of residents, including project participants, not the Free State Project itself.

The FSP does not endorse any specific changes to government or strategies to achieve them. The FSP does not take positions on issues, candidates, legislation, places to move within New Hampshire, tactics or methods of action. The one stipulation the FSP does make is that people who promote violence, racial hatred, or bigotry are not welcome.

Reporting by the FSP on participant activity or NH events on the website, in the newsletter, or in any other place does not represent support or endorsement and may not portray the diversity of opinions and activities that exists among participants.
