As we speak, DHS is working to assemble a database of Americans suspected of any form of resistance against ICE kidnappings occurring all over the country. Ken Klippenstein, the investigative journalist who’s consistently covered repressive government activity during the popular uprisings of the past few years, is the expert when it comes to how the government is attacking our right to privacy and to freedom of speech. We got him on the show for an exclusive interview with Krystal on the info leaked to him about the inner workings of ICE and the infringement of individual liberties we should all be worried about. Lately, Ken’s work has centered on inside information he’s gotten from DHS whistleblowers about how the Trump admin is escalating into a national crackdown on civil rights. Most chillingly, he’s revealed that Border Patrol and ICE have been gathering sensitive personal data on anyone even suspected of having a connection to anti-ICE activity or resisting the immigration raids on their cities. That info, according to info Ken got from a Border Patrol agent, includes license plates, biometrics, and names of civilians they view as a threat. This info is currently being used to form growing lists of Americans being tracked for their suspected involvement of what we imagine Trump and his cronies would call “un-American activities.” There are lists for suspected pro-Palestine sympathizers and for alleged “antifa.”

We’re not yet at the point where these lists have been consolidated into a database, per Ken’s intel. The surveillance state is in a period of accelerated growth, and its diffuse system of moving parts isn’t yet fully in sync. That’s a glimmer of hope — that by mounting sustained and coordinated resistance, we may be able to prevent our government from building an omniscient perspective into our lives and from taking its repression of basic liberties to the next level.
