Pope condemns warmongering in speech to diplomats

POPE LEO CONDEMNS ATTACKS ON HUMAN DIGNITY In a sweeping address to diplomats from around the world yesterday, Pope Leo defended human dignity and condemned abortion, surrogacy, euthanasia, and the warmongering that he said is “back in vogue” among many politicians. He called for peace in a number of places by name, including the Holy Land, Venezuela, Myanmar, the Great Lakes region of Africa, Sudan, and Ukraine. READ 
SUPREME COURT ISSUES OPINION, BUT NOT ON TARIFFS  Despite widespread anticipation that the Supreme Court might release a decision on the legality of President Donald Trump’s tariffs yesterday, the court only issued one opinion as its first ruling of 2026. The decision was in response to a prisoner’s challenge of a portion of his sentence. The court indicated that it may release more rulings next week.  READ

VATICAN WORKED TO DE-ESCALATE AHEAD OF VENEZUELA RAID  The Washington Post reported this week that the Vatican had worked to de-escalate U.S. military action ahead of the Trump administration’s decision to raid Venezuela and capture Nicolás Maduro. U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican Brian Burch, co-founder of CatholicVote, was summoned on Christmas Eve by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who wanted to find out whether the U.S. planned to exclusively take action regarding drug trafficking or try to change leadership in Venezuela, according to the Post.  READ
