The other day, I saw a boy calling a leftist/socialist economist a ‘soy boy’. And only ‘soy boys’ believed him.
On the right, they paint the picture that rightwing politics is about being straight, dominant, and going to the gym and all of that.
I heard another leftist youtuber explaining to me that he is not a ‘soy boy’ and that he is actually a real man. It was as if he had to point this out to me: “Although I’m leftwing, I would not like to have a sexual relationship with a man.”
How did all this identity stuff get into politics ?
What does the left want? The left want social reform, communist/anti imperialist states, or it wants a radical decentralized/syndicalist setting. So, it is about social democracy, communism, or anarchist experiments.
None of these three systems/methods have anything to do with your sexual orientation, your favorite musical style, the things you eat, the color of your hair, your skin color, or whatever.
There is now the idea that being trans and queer has something to do with the left. But neoliberals also support the whole trans/queer thing. Being trans is not left, right, capitalist, oe socialist.
In a capitalist system you have to pay for your gender transition yourself, and within socialism the state might pay for it. But both a socialist and a capitalist can be in favor of or be against gender transitions for different reasons.
I once read that to people with a low intelligence, things like ingroup aesthetics and style are more important than actual logical systems of thought. To them , the surface level is more important than the actual content of a subject. How anarchism looks is more important than what these theories are about. A lot of people have low intelligence, and they turn movements into these kind of cultural identity tribes. Within Western culture, its a taboo to suggest that some people are smarter than others, because of the “we are all equal” this/that.
When I look at social democracy and neoliberalism, then I think that social democracy (European/German style) might be more beneficial for a person like me. That’s the reason to vote for it, which doesn’t mean there are no problems with it. It also doesn’t mean that everything liberals/libertarians ever said is all bullshit either. This vote doesn’t turn me trans, or masculine, or bisexual, or vegan, or straight, or metalhead, or emo. I’m still the same person.
Politics in the West has become childish. Maybe because our culture is childish. Our culture is about consumerism, direct satisfaction, aesthetics, style, and upwards mobility. The culture provided people with certain styles they can consume, so they could become part of an ingroup. A pop culture ingroup. Neoliberalism tainted every political current, and turned it into these pop culture ingroups. It infantilized everything, you could say. Its as if we live in a permanent MTV show.
These political/cultural brands have different figureheads. Jordan Peterson, Vaush, Andrew Tate, Breadtube this/that. But none of these media celebrities ad anything, to anything. They don’t change your life. You see these people on a screen, and you think they have something to do with you. But its a spectacle, a mirage.
As long as the West can’t overcome these issues, it will get stuck in the culture war, and nothing will change. And eventually, some class tensions might arise, probably. Or not. And then we will just stay in neoliberalism for a long time.
