Ok, so, to the young anarchists, leftist anarchists, who praise this attack on Charlie Kirk.

You guys don’t really get it. You didn’t study your basic anarchism.

Look, so what does leftist/ancom anarchism want? If you read your Malatesta, you see he had a specific program. A pretty strange and radical program. He wants to attack the state, destroy capitalism, and give the land to the people, on which they can create their own autonomous institutions. These institutions can be communistic, socialist, mutualist, or other, as long as they are voluntary. So, smash the system and replace it with small, self-managed systems. The situation in Italy (where Malatesta came from) was very extreme in the 19th century. People died of hunger, and people got exploited. In that context, many people were drawn to his vision of direct and radical change. People had nothing left to lose. Nothing to lose but their chains, as Marx said.

We can see that something like this is unlikely to happen in America. Such an anarchist kind of revolution, in the Malatesta style. I mean, the chance of something like that happening is very, very small. I would say there’s a 0.1% chance that such an anarchist movement would gain momentum.

So, some modern leftist anarchists might think that killing conservative people might bring their political goals closer. This is not true. The fact that you killl some random conservative, only for speaking his mind, doesn’t give you the land, it doesn’t give you the factories, it doesn’t give you more supporters, it doesn’t make you popular among the masses, it doesn’t scare away the capitalists/bankers, it doesn’t change the Calvinist/capitalist mindset, of Western people.

The culture war is not the class war. And in a way, classic leftist anarchism is about the class war. But killing people who have other ideas than you have is not the class war. It’s a culture war. A useless culture war.

Do you guys think that the culture war is the same as the class war? You want to fight a culture war because class war is outside your reach.

The working-class people, who live paycheck to paycheck, won’t benefit from the fact that you attack some conservatives. The MAGA voters don’t change their minds on Trump because of your attacks.

What might happen now is that some conservatives will attack progressives as a form of revenge. And so you get a literal war between two cultural factions. Still, the working and middle classes struggle to pay the rent, etc., while you guys kill each other over issues like ‘race’ and ‘transgender bathrooms’ and ‘sexwork’ and all kinds of stupid nonsense.

You can ask yourself, would there be a place for someone like Kirk in an anarchist society? In the kind of society Malatesta had in mind? Malatesta talks about the voluntary organisation of political life. So, probably there would also be room for conservatives, as long as they wouldn’t impose their politics on others. It’s like Malatesta said: you can never force anarcho-communism on others, because then it’s not anarchist. This means that in such a society, the Christians/conservatives would just be left alone. A bit like, for example, how the Amish people are also left alone.
