Episode 237 with Jamaal Bowman
We’ve got a BIG episode for you this week! Enjoy our spicy and informative conversation with former Congressman Jamaal Bowman, who spills the tea on how AIPAC money is totally changing the landscape of American politics, how that manifested in his campaign, and how political figures like Ritchie Torres embody everything that’s wrong with the establishment. Plus, we go over the current cultural crashout on *that* Sydney Sweeney ad. Watch below:
Jamaal was screwed over big time by the AIPAC funds that poured into his congressional race. He ran on a platform centered on the needs of working-class people and saw firsthand how AIPAC was able to plant seeds of fear and hatred into the electorate, tipping the race toward his opponent. We also saw that kind of funding attempt to disrupt the Zohran campaign, which is now headed for the general election and polling well but had to face extremely troubling misinformation funded, again, by AIPAC. People literally switched their voter registration to vote against Jamaal as Democrats. We unpack the effects of this political maneuvering on Jamaal’s campaign and on the political system at large.
And, of course, we talk about how electeds — especially Democrats — are still (STILL!) voting to send offensive weapons to the IOF to perpetuate the genocide in Gaza. Only 8 percent of Democrats support what’s going on in Gaza, and we’re guessing that 8 percent is made up of reactionary senators! So, given the unpopular nature of this political stance, we talk about how this support for Israel works. Is it ideological? What is its basis, and why is it worth it? Finally, we discuss the importance of political education as a weapon to combat corrupting money in our elections — one of the most important ways the left has to take back control of what’s going on over on the Hill.
Thanks for tuning in to this conversation on KK&F. This episode will be available tomorrow on Spotify, Pandora, Apple Podcasts, and other major streaming platforms.
