When Trump issued his executive order to end birthright citizenship, federal judges stopped it.1 When he launched a mass expulsion of immigrants to a Salvadoran torture prison without due process, a federal judge stood in his way.2
And in more than 100 other cases, federal judges have stepped in to block Trump’s lawless rampage.3
But now Republicans in Congress are trying to remove even this basic check on his power.
House Republicans just passed the No Rogue Rulings Act, which would strip federal district judges of the power to stop Trump’s most illegal actions, and the U.S. Senate could be our last opportunity to stop this awful bill.4

We’ve seen this president wage an all-out assault on the independent judiciary, personally attacking judges who rule against him as “radical left lunatics” and demanding their impeachment.5
Then last month, the Trump administration escalated their attacks by arresting a Milwaukee judge who prevented ICE from using her courtroom to make an arrest without a judicial warrant.6
It’s hardly a coincidence that threats of violence against judges have skyrocketed since Trump took office.7
In this moment of rising authoritarianism, the last thing we need is for Congress to join Trump in attacking the judiciary and further undermining the checks and balances that form the foundation of our constitutional republic.
Demand Progress is flooding Capitol Hill with petition signatures to make sure the Senate never passes the No Rogue Rulings Act, and now we must ramp up our campaign before it’s too late.
With gratitude,
The team at Demand Progress Action
