Culture Wars/Current Controversies

In Defense of Trump

The four criminal cases against Donald Trump are incredibly consequential, but information from the Trump side has been sparse to nonexistent. Reporters diligently ask Trump’s lawyers for interviews, and they get back a blast of prefab bluster from the former president’s campaign staff about how he “continues to fight for America and Americans against these partisan, Crooked Joe Biden–led election-interference hoaxes.” For our latest cover story, New York’s Andrew Rice was able to go deeper, getting insight into Trump’s strategy directly from the man leading his defense team, Todd Blanche. If you want to understand the trial beginning this week in New York City — and the three that loom in the future, whether pre- or post-election — this is the story to read, straight from the most important (okay, second-most-important) source of all.

In Defense of Trump Todd Blanche is a surprisingly competent lawyer. And he’s on track to keep his client out of jail until the election.
