I honestly didn’t think that they would ever let any of the Manson girls go but I for one am glad they gave Leslie Van Houten a break. I don’t buy the whole Charles Manson-as-Svengali myth. I actually think Tex Watson was the brains of that horror show and Manson just acted as a sort of ex-con spiritual adviser, but Leslie was just a mixed-up kid who got caught up in a wild scene and did some stupid shit that she’s clearly sorry for and has moved on from decades ago. She didn’t even kill anybody. She mostly just stood around with a Buck knife in her hand while Tex barked orders at her. If this crime hadn’t been turned into a Hollywood circus by Vincent Bugliosi, she would have been paroled decades ago. All the star fuckers should just fuck off and let her try to do something with what’s left of her life. Throwing it away won’t bring anyone back.
