Congressional candidate, ex-Army officer strips in pro-veteran, anti-war show

A provocative Instagram video from 2019 shows Staten Island House of Representatives candidate Brittany Ramos DeBarros stripping and twerking at a 2019 anti-war, pro-veteran event.

The video depicts DeBarros, a Democratic Socialist and former Army officer, at one point pulling off her fatigues in protest. She is later seen dancing burlesque in undergarments and pasties alongside three other female performers. Proceeds from the event benefitted About Face, a group of post-9/11 service members who help to provide care packages, mental health services and peer-to-peer counseling for veterans. The group also aims to end a “foreign policy of permanent war and the use of military weapons, tactics, and values in communities across the country,” according to their website.

Now, two years later, DeBarros is running in the upcoming primary against former Staten Island Rep. Max Rose.

Her team declined to comment on the video Saturday.

In her description of the video, which she posted to her own Instagram page, DeBarros said she was “debating whether or not to post video snippets of [the] drop booties not bombs anti-militarist extravaganza…”
