Jaclyn Moore has always considered Dave Chappelle one of her “comic heroes.”
“His shadow is huge,” says Moore, who was a writer and showrunner on Netflix’s “Dear White People.” “He’s a brilliant goofy comedian, he’s brilliant as a political comedian. He has been brilliant for so so long, but I also don’t think because you’ve been brilliant means that you’re always brilliant.”
Moore announced on Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday night that she would no longer work with Netflix after she watched Chappelle’s latest standup special, “The Closer,” which premiered on the streamer on Tuesday. In the special, Chappelle makes numerous jokes about trans women.
Moore transitioned during the pandemic, a journey she has chronicled across her social media platforms.
> As one who grew up in the world of the 70s and 80s when characters like Rev. Donald Wildmon were trying to organize boycotts of drug store chains for selling Penthouse magazine, I never thought I’d see the day when comedians were being boycotted for being “transphobic.”
Just shows how easily fooled many were. As Aimee Terese pointed out, it was always an attack on the proletarian family. The “Religious Right” were, in fact, correct about many things, including the Jewish attack on basic biology, a basic Darwinist understanding of genetic interests. A racial attack on competing Y-Chromosomes. No different than competing prides of lions.
But – nah – Penthouse was an important “free speech” issue.
> Back in the day, Chappelle would have been attacked, as Richard Pryor was, for being a “foul-mouthed N*****.” Now he’s a conservative hero of free speech against political correctness.
In what universe? Certainly not the really-existing universe. Pryor was hailed as a hero and is considered the greatest comedian in history, precisely because of his anti-white comedy.
What a world-view, to believe that Anita Bryant won, not lost, the culture war.
It it as if, if one single person doesn’t play along, the winning team is actually the losing team.
God, I am so glad that I live in a post Penthouse age. Before that I would have to go after dumb girls to have sexual satisfaction because kooks and idiots really think that it is my mission in life to have white kids.
“including the Jewish attack on basic biology” LOL
The Religious Right is about as Philo-Semitic as they come, and they don’t believe in Darwinian evolution. All free speech issues are important issues, whether for Bob Guccione, Frank Collin, Charles Murray, or Dave Chappelle. Social conservatives were very opposed to comedians like Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor back when they held more cultural power. Anita Bryant obviously lost the culture war, but the same censorious impulses are now coming from the “other side.”
