  1. I agree with Keith — Latin America is the much better comparison. We’re sliding into strongman/banana republic status as the income/wealth/status gaps increase between the elites and the working class increase.

  2. The managerial class has been firmly in charge in the US since at least as far back as World War Two.

    It’s just that the layer of theatrics — the professional politician class, elections, etc. — is getting thinner and less believable. Sort of like replacing the expensive Monet print on the wall with a picture of dogs playing poker you bought out of the back of a guy’s truck in a parking lot.
