The global economic system is entering a new era. Financial instability, deindustrialization, war, artificial intelligence, technological disruption, rising debt and the decline of once-powerful industrial economies are all symptoms of a much deeper transformation. In this livestream, Caleb Maupin presents a slideshow examining the four historical stages of the modern economic system: Primitive Accumulation, Industrial Capitalism, Globalism/Imperialism, and what the Center for Political Innovation identifies as a new stage — Destructive Accumulation. Why are productive industries disappearing while financial speculation expands? Why do wars, austerity, privatization and economic destruction increasingly generate enormous profits? How did the computer revolution transform the global economy? And why are the traditional imperialist powers experiencing growing economic and social deterioration within their own borders?

This presentation examines the long-term crisis of the international financial system and argues that we are witnessing a fundamental change in how wealth and profit are accumulated. Rather than simply expanding production and building new productive capacity, increasingly powerful financial interests can profit from scarcity, debt, destruction, deindustrialization and the dismantling of what previous generations built. Understanding the crisis requires understanding how the global economic system developed — and what stage it may be entering now.
