The good, the bad, and the World Cup
Lindsey Graham Chose Evil →
Howdy, Nation-istas! (Nation-alists? Nation-als? Nation’s Hot Dogs? There’s so many things we could call our stan army. Please send in your suggestions.) And happy Friday! Hopefully you are in a nice, relaxing place, and not dealing with dangerous toxic air or being ravaged by the evil lettuce-haunting parasite going around. Boy, do we know how to have a fun summer around here.

Anyway, to the news of the week, which started with the unexpected death of Senator Lindsey Graham. Our view of Graham can be summed up in the headline of Jeet Heer’s obituary: “Lindsey Graham Chose Evil.” He sure did! And one of his most evil deeds was saving Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court, as Elie Mystal recounted.

But it wasn’t all bad people dying this week. There were also bad people plunging the world back into open war in Iran and giving very bonkers speeches about baseless election-fraud conspiracies. Wait a minute, that was the same guy, Donald Trump! He really gets around (in an evil way). We gave both of these developments the scorn they deserved.

“Please, please, no more bad news, say a nice thing,” I hear you pleading. I got you! Golf caddies just unionized for the first time. Even Nancy Pelosi is voting to cut US aid to Israel. There’s a growing, successful movement to improve menopause care for women. And the World Cup final is on Sunday.

Speaking of which—our own Dave Zirin has one piece of advice: Root for Spain to beat Argentina. Why, you ask? Just click and you will find out.

Root for Spain for Their Play and Their Politics
A World Cup victory will not just feel like a soccer triumph but a national triumph. For that reason, fans should support Pedro Sánchez’s Spain over Javier Milei’s Argentina.
