The Latest on the New York Primary
In the Race to Succeed Nadler, Micah Lasher Says Fighting Trump Is Not Enough →
This week, Democratic candidates in New York’s 12th Congressional District geared up for a primary election, Peter Thiel kicked off his Argentinian exit strategy, and the British government revoked Hasan Piker’s visa.

As Joan Walsh reported from her district on the Upper West Side, “there’s no clear frontrunner in the race,” but popular candidate Micah Lasher—endorsed by Jerry Nadler, Michael Bloomberg, and Governor Kathy Hochul—is running up against the fame of Kennedy grandchild Jack Schlossberg. (As Katha Pollitt also writes, the only female candidate, Nina Schwalbe, is not getting the attention she deserves.)

Who will win the primary at the end of this month? We’re not sure, but as Walsh notes, while Lasher has enlisted Zohran Mamdani’s strategist Morris Katz, not one of these candidates is formally on the left. In other words, nobody is pushing the envelope.
