| Join André Robert Lee, award-winning filmmaker and educator, as we travel through Benin and Ghana to explore the historical development of the transatlantic slave trade. Our tour examines its political, social, and cultural foundations alongside contemporary perspectives, combining site visits, expert conversations, and guided discussion.
In Benin, the itinerary includes Cotonou, Abomey (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Ouidah, with visits to the Route des Esclaves, the Door of No Return, and important Vodun and cultural sites. In Ghana, the program follows both inland and coastal routes through the Ashanti region, including Kumasi, Assin Manso, Cape Coast, and Elmina. Highlights include visits to Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle, as well as meetings with artists, journalists, and cultural leaders throughout the journey.
