DESPITE the manner in which the ruling class has always sought to exploit the natural energy and creativity of its subjects, I never had much faith in the ability of the average man or woman to bring about meaningful action without first undergoing a process of spiritual and intellectual development and find the engineered ‘awakening’ on the populist Right to be vulgar in the extreme. However, I never thought I would see European revolutionaries whom I once respected become wholly seduced by mainstream politicians who merely have to utter a few choice platitudes to earn their respect.
When Oswald Spengler declared that “a minority always fires the multitude,” little did he suspect that it would appear in the guise of corporate puppets, internet gurus and opportunistic celebrities with the ability to bend the fascists, communists and anarchists to their will. The so-called ‘American century’ has evolved into a European catastrophe in which the former opponents of capitalism have abandoned their roots for a slice of daily entertainment from the world’s biggest soap opera. In the case of the Right, in particular, the expression “Think globally, act locally” has been replaced by a new American dream in which those who claim to reject the ‘other’ have themselves become like foreigners in their own lands.
