House Republicans pass bill to steal the 2026 election

Donald Trump’s second term approval ratings just hit an all-time low, and even he admits that Republicans are in serious danger of losing control of Congress in next year’s midterm elections.1,2

So Trump is doing everything in his power to rig the midterms.

The centerpiece of Trump’s attack on our elections in Congress is a bill called the SAVE Act, which would disenfranchise tens of millions of voters by requiring them to show a birth certificate or passport that must match their current name when they register to vote.3

The SAVE Act already passed the House of Representatives, and we need your help to ramp up our efforts to stop this awful legislation in the Senate.

Trump has been laying the groundwork to overturn the results of the midterm elections for months.4

In March, he issued an executive order claiming federal control of our election systems nationwide and requiring voters to provide proof of citizenship when registering through a federal registration form.5

The order also threatens to cut federal election funding from states that accept mail-in ballots after Election Day, a major blow to mail-in voting, and ordered the Department of Homeland Security to subpoena state voter registration lists as part of a potential nationwide voter purge.6,7

However, an executive order doesn’t carry the force of law, and many of its provisions are being challenged in court.8

The SAVE Act would escalate these attacks and lock them into law, disenfranchising tens of millions of eligible voters. Married women, transgender people, immigrants, and anyone who has changed their name or recently moved would be especially affected.9

It’s essential for the survival of our democracy that the 2026 midterm elections remain free and fair, and so we must stop the SAVE Act from passing in the Senate.

Demand Progress Action has already mobilized tens of thousands of people to contact Congress and defend the midterms. Now, in the face of these rising threats, we must ramp it up.
