Donald Trump is on an illegal and unconstitutional rampage, and the one meaningful thing standing in his way so far has been the federal judiciary.
But last week, the House of Representatives passed legislation to sweep away even that check on his power by stripping federal judges of the ability to halt his most flagrantly illegal actions with nationwide injunctions.1
Now this legislation goes to the Senate, and if it passes, it will move us another dangerous step closer to full-on authoritarianism.
Demand Progress has mobilized tens of thousands of people to speak out against this awful bill, but we must ramp up the pressure because the Senate is our last chance to stop this awful legislation.

Same for Trump’s first-term Muslim travel ban, his ban on transgender troops in the military, and dozens of other illegal orders.3
But under this bill, that restriction would be gone. Trump could simply issue any order he wants, and it would immediately go into effect unless the Supreme Court steps in. And given the massive number of illegal and unconstitutional actions pouring out of this White House, there’s simply no way the nine justices of the Supreme Court could keep up.
Democratic presidents have also been held in check by federal court injunctions, but no president has violated the law as often and as shamelessly as Trump.
With our democracy hanging by a thread, we must do everything we can to fight back right now.
With gratitude,
The team at Demand Progress Action
