Episode 203 with Michael Tracey
We sit down for Episode 203 of KK&F with journalist Michael Tracey to follow his deep dive into Trump’s cabinet picks thus far. Plus, of course, a lot of discussion about the recent shooting of the UnitedHealthcare CEO, why nobody’s shedding a tear for the corporate shills who maintain our for-profit healthcare industry, and the widespread media response. Watch below:
It’s been another series of field days on X formerly known as Twitter, which is fully fixated on the recent shooting of Brian Thompson, the CEO of insurance company UnitedHealthcare, seemingly motivated by Thompson’s leadership role in our country’s cruel private healthcare system. While government figures are tweeting shock and outrage, regular people online are expressing guilty or not-so-guilty pleasure at the demise of someone who played a key role in fleecing Americans out of the healthcare they need and are forced to pay exorbitant sums for. (That linked NYT article also reveals that UnitedHealthcare has been accused of using AI to evaluate and then reject claims.) No one mourns the wicked! And it looks as though the ongoing manhunt might not result in an arrest — in fact, the CEO had received so many death threats that a single potential perpetrator doesn’t rise to the surface.
We have Michael Tracey on this week to give us the lowdown on Trump’s Cabinet picks, from Pete Hegseth to Tulsi Gabbard. Michael addresses the perception of Pete Hegseth among some of Trump’s base as an anti-war figure, Trump’s leverage in getting his picks through the confirmation process, and much more. Who is the cast of characters currently taking shape as Trump’s next admin, and who do we need to watch out for? You’ll hear about all of this and more on this week’s episode of KK&F. You can listen to this episode as a podcast when it’s released tomorrow on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other streaming platforms.
