Let’s explain some things. People accuse Preston of being radical right for his pluralist ideas. The thing is, pluralist anarchism is just the outcome of Tuckerite anarchism. We know Tucker’s definition of anarchism : anarchism is the idea that all social relationships should be voluntary. If Preston is a Nazi, would Tucker then also be a Nazi?

Tuckerite anarchism is different from the universalist, totalizing leftist version of anarchism. Leftist anarchists often say anarchism is against hierarchy. Or they say anarchism is the movement against all forms of oppression. In that way, anarchism would be more a bit like Christianity. It’s not strange that people with a Christian background go for anarchism like that.

I differ from them. I have nothing against hierarchy, as long as people actually choose to be part of something like that. And I think the word ‘oppression’ is a bit slippery because when is something oppression? I’m not saying I like it when people hurt each other. Of course not. And I’m not a fan of violence at all. But what is oppression? Some feminists say p0rn is oppression; others say it is ‘empowering.’ Then, who is the right anarchist in that discussion? I have read articles by anarchist women that are for and that are against porn. And this then leads to endless discussions in these anarchist milieus about who is an oppressor and who isn’t. The last ten years the leftist anarchist in this country squabbled over the questions around interpersonal oppression, and ‘micro aggressions’. In the meantime, they isolated themselves from the rest of society, and now their movement is more or less death.

The pluralist anarchist vision is a pragmatic proposal. I myself dislike all kinds of identity-based thinking. I have always been an individualist. I don’t care what the color of your skin is. I don’t care if you are white, black, brown, or blue. So, I dislike both the third-world/decolonial radicalism and the white supremacy radicalism. I always thought more in the direction of classical liberalism, mutualism, and liberal traditions. In my country, I voted for the socialist party, the Green Party, and one time a classical liberal party. I’m not a conservative and not at all a racial identarian.

So, the anarcho-pluralist idea was to let people have their own little communities and then just leave them alone. The radical communities will be very small. You then, for example, have a hundred Nazis in a village, and everyone is white there because that’s what they seemingly want. What would be good about this is that they won’t attack people on the street anymore. They have their own little cult. The same would go for radical religious people

Wouldn’t there be dangers in this? The idea is that it’s better than the dangers of centralization. It might not be perfect, but at least we were rid of the imperialist bureaucracies that plague the world. You rather have Nazi’s that live in their little ‘white only village’ than that you have Nazi’s that want to conquer big parts of the world, and who are overly ambitious with this. The same goes for communists. You would rather have communists living together in their voluntary province than have revolutionary communists who want to revive the USSR and will kill everyone that slightly disagrees with them.

It’s a bit like the nations we have now, in Europe, but it will be easier to go from one zone to the other, and there will be commons around these zones or next to these zones, so people can live there if they want total autonomy. So, it’s a radicalization of republican liberalism, you could say.

What would be the proposal of the leftist anarchists? Anarchism would mean that all leftwing and rightwing authoritarians will be exterminated. Do you want to get rid of all the Leninists and all the radical right-wingers? Throw them in jail? Send them to re-education camps? First, we have to destroy everyone that disagrees with us, and then we can build anarchism.

As I already said, I’m apolitical. I’m not even ‘an activist’ and certainly not a revolutionary.’ I’m just a thinker. And I think that pluralist anarchism is the only logical formulation of a consistent anarchist program. I thought long about this and studied both left and right anarchism, and this is the conclusion after years of study. I can only speak for myself, and I tend to talk with everyone, except if I agree or disagree with this person.
