The police’s ‘tender collusion’ investigation in the city unearths gang suspicions, intimidation, influence, a web of networks, a takeover attempt and multimillion-rand contracts — the mother lode.

⛳🍊 Donald Trump has been declared safe after what the FBI declared to be another attempted assassination at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach. A gunman was identified on the golf hole ahead of where Trump was playing. Secret Service agents fired shots at a rifle barrel spotted in the bushes, with the suspect fleeing. The FBI now have a suspect in custody.
🇳🇬🌊 Nearly 300 Nigerian prisoners have escaped after serious flooding. A prison in Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria, saw its walls collapse amid the deluge. Just seven escaped inmates have been recaptured so far.
🇪🇺🚢 The EU’s naval force has managed to connect tug boats to a burning oil tanker in the Red Sea. The MV Sounion was hit by Houthi attacks in late August, and is now being towed to safety as it poses a huge environmental threat.
🏆🐻 The Bear has so far dominated the comedy acting portion of this year’s Emmys. Shōgun swept up the drama section. The show was ongoing at the time of writing.

🏎 McLaren’s Oscar Piastri won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in a race that ended behind a virtual safety car. Ferrari’s pole-sitter Charles Leclerc was second with George Russell third for Mercedes.

🏉 If all goes to plan in the final two rounds, the Springboks will add the Rugby Championship title to their lengthy list of accolades. They meet Argentina in Santiago this weekend.
